One of the biggest issues with virtual reality, is that you can't really understand it until you've tried it. People who haven't put on a headset since the 90s, can't possibly imagine how far the technology has come in terms of presence, comfort and immersion since then.
But perhaps a mixing of realities is what's needed?
That's what the launch trailer for Fantastic Contraption does. It shows you as close to what it's really like to play the game in VR, as you can possibly get in two dimensions. It shows you what's going on in-game and out of game at the same time, really blending the digital and physical worlds together.
Fantastic Contraption is a game which has you building fantastic contraptions from wheels and balloons, to try and traverse blocky landscapes and get the pink orb into the pink blob.
It sounds simple, but it's a deep and difficult puzzler that only becomes more interesting in VR. Players may need to grab a step ladder to reach the tops of their creations, but watching them trundle off into the distance yourself, is quite a sight.
Does this explain VR more to you than previous trailers have?
