Are you looking forward to the reboot of Doom set to arrive in a week's time? If so, you better make sure that your PC can run it. Fortunately id Software has released minimum and recommended specifications for the game,
Getting the game running at a bare minimum level shouldn't be too difficult, as you won't need any new-generation hardware. In-fact if you have a PC with a dedicated GPU from the last three years, chances are you're fine.
Minimum specifications
Windows 7/8.1/10 (64-bit versions); Intel Core i5-2400/AMD FX-8320 or better;
8 GB RAM; 55 GB free HDD space; NVIDIA GTX 670 2GB/AMD Radeon HD 7870 2GB or better
Contains a single disc. Download of additional files from Steam (total amount 45 GB) is required to run the game.
Requires Steam activation and broadband internet connection for Multiplayer and SnapMap.
Although we'll all need a good chunk of storage space to get this one installed, the rest of it isn't taxing at all.
Of course though, this will only get you to the bare minimum of running the game. It won't look great and it won't play particularly well either. For a decent experience you want to be able to hit the recommended at the least.
Recommended specifications
Windows 7/8.1/10 (64-bit versions); Intel Core i7-3770/AMD FX-8350 or better;
8 GB RAM; 55 GB free HDD space; NVIDIA GTX 970 4GB/AMD Radeon R9 290 4GB or better
Contains a single disc. Download of additional files from Steam (total amount 45 GB) is required to run the game.
Requires Steam activation and broadband internet connection for Multiplayer and SnapMap.
These specifications are a little stiffer, demanding a decent i7 CPU and graphics cards with 4GB of video memory or more. In-fact these specs are even a little more intensive than those demanded for VR headsets like the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.
Doom is set to launch on May 13, beginning at 12AM ET, though you can pre-load on Steam from May 11.
