Double Fine cuts dozen staff due to failed project

Double Fine Productions, the company behind industry classics like Psychonauts, Brutal Legend and Costume Quest, has announced that due to a publisher dropping its support for an as yet, unannounced game, it had had to let go 12 of its staff.

Studio head Tim Schafer made the announcement himself, stating that although a dozen developers had unfortunately been dismissed, that it would not affect any of the already announced projects Double Fine is known to be working on.

"One of our unannounced projects was unexpectedly cancelled by its publisher, forcing us to reduce our staff by 12 people. Our remaining projects--Broken Age, Massive Chalice, and Grim Fandango Remastered, were unaffected," said studio head Tim Schafer.

Broken Age is still slated for release before the end of the year, or at least, it's second part is, with its first act having been released and sold early in 2014, following on from its original Kickstarter success.

Massive Chalice recently hit Steam Early Access, and is expected to be finished sometime in Spring 2015, though not concrete release date has been announced.
