Dragon Age: The Veilguard brings back a fan favorite character

Dragon Age: The Veilguard was announced to quite a lot of excitement. After all, this is a game franchise that hasn't seen a new entry since 2014, and a new game in the series is bound to make fans excited. Long-time fans have even more to get excited about though, as it's been announced Dragon Age: The Veilguard will include a fan favorite character: the witch, Morrigan.

News in brief

  • New trailer showcases Morrigan in all her glory
  • Eagle-eyed viewers have spotted some key details
  • A release date was also announced

Morrigan is a witch who was originally introduced in the first game in the series, Dragon Age: Origins, way back in 2009. While she hasn't been in every game, she played a role in the last game of the series, Dragon Age: Inquisition. She wasn't a playable character in this game, but she was definitely present, and travelled to your base to aid you. Her prickly exterior made her a tough character to romance in Dragon Age: Origins, as ever for gamers, this made her a fan favorite, and her return has made a lot of people very excited.

But some viewers have noticed some big details from the trailer. While it's easy to get overexcited by the simple presence of Morrigan, keep an eye on her head. As many have noted, Morrigan appears to be wearing Flemeth's crown. Long-time fans will know this is a very significant detail: Flemeth is Morrigan's mother, and the so-called "Witch of the Wilds". She has appeared in every Dragon Age game, and is always a character of significance, and a powerful magic user to boot. By the end of the first game, Morrigan becomes convinced her mother is planning to take over her body and continue her long life that way, though this particular detail was never confirmed. Does Morrigan wearing Flemeth's crown indicate the old witch has finally taken over her daughter's body, or has Morrigan more naturally inherited the witch's crown? We'll have to wait for the game to find out.

We don't have long to wait either, as a release date has also been confirmed: Halloween 2024.
