Mostly known for creating and developing the Duke Nukem games series, 3D Realms is closing doors and letting its employees out.
Back in 1997, 3D Realms announced that it has started working on Duke Nukem Forever, a sequel to its classic first person shooter, Duke Nukem 3D. Duke Nukem Forever has since been delayed repeatedly and, with the studio finally closing down, it seems that its 12 years long development span has ended for good.
Duke Nukem Forever publisher , Take Two Interactive, issued an official statement stating that their "relationship with 3D Realms for Duke Nukem Forever was a publishing arrangement, which did not include ongoing funds for development of the title. In addition, Take-Two continues to retain the publishing rights to Duke Nukem Forever."
Deep Silver and Apogee Software also issued an official statement reaffirming that they are not affected by the situation at 3D Realms, and that development on the Duke Nukem Trilogy is continuing as planned. Duke Nukem Trilogy is a Nintendo DS and PSP platformer compilation of Duke Nukem: Chain Reaction, Duke Nukem: Critical Mass and Duke Nukem: Proving Grounds.
