The Android version of Dungeon Keeper has come under fire for trying to manipulate its players' votes by redirecting dissatisfied players to a private survey instead of Google Play Store. On the other hand the company insists that this practice aims only to collect information from the players directly in order to make the game better.
Instead of asking players whether they want to rate the game and redirecting the ones who click "yes" to the Play Store where they can rate and review the game, Dungeon Keeper asks the payer whether it deserves a five stars rating or not. Players who choose 5 stars are then redirected to the Play Store and the rest are redirected to EA's survey.
"We're always looking at new ways to gather player feedback so that we can continue to improve our games," an EA spokesperson said. "The 'rate this app' feature in the Google Play version of Dungeon Keeper was designed to help us collect valuable feedback from players who don't feel the game is worth a top rating."
"We wanted to make it easier for more players to send us feedback directly from the game if they weren't having the best experience. Players can always continue to leave any rating they want on the Google Play store."
We're sure EA will change this behavior as soon as they discover that they can get players' feedback from their Play Store reviews.
