The idea of playing with The Force Awakens characters and weapons in Star Wars Battlefront is quite tempting, but it won't happen anytime soon.
EA CFO Blake Jorgensen revealed that they are not allowed to use material from The Force Awakens because it would break the canon of Star Wars.
"On Star Wars, the one thing that we are adhering to, and I think this is part of our arrangement with Lucas and Disney, is you can't make a game in Star Wars that violates the canon of Star Wars," he said during an earnings call. "Meaning you can't take something from the future and bring it back into the past unless it's a reference. "
The arrangement doesn't prevent EA from using content from The Force Awakens in other games, but Jorgensen isn't sure which games will take place in that era. "Not knowing yet exactly what the storyline in [Star Wars:] Rogue One is going to be, I can't comment on how that could come in"" he said. "But to the extent that it's in the future… Our current Battlefront game is all based on the historical Star Wars canon, which is 30 years before the most recent movie. That will limit our ability to bring some new content into that.
