EA titles have, for a very long time, been at the top of the sales charts all over the world but one game genre seems to be eluding the publisher. Strategy games, especially RPG and RTS titles, have not been EAs strong point but two new deals plan to change all that.
Electronic Arts announced a worldwide publishing agreement with celebrated game designer Chris Taylor of Gas Powered Games. The two companies have partnered to create a Real-Time Strategy (RTS) game for the PC. The new title is slated for release in 2006.
EA completed its startegic moves by announcing another exclusive worldwide publishing agreement with start-up development studio, Castaway Entertainment. Based in Redwood City, CA the independent game studio currently includes eight creative, artistic and technical staffers, who are credited with the creation of blockbuster hits Diablo, Diablo II and Diablo II: Lords of Destruction expansion pack. Development of a new action-RPG title is already underway, and the team is beginning to staff up to produce this major title.
