EA kills off Origin free game program

One of the best features about EA's Origin platform -- and there aren't many -- is that it featured an "On the House" game program meant you could occasionally get yourself a free game for no trouble at all. They weren't brand new games, but classic titles worth revisiting for a few hours here and there -- it was a nice treat to say thank you for using Origin when really you'd rather be using Steam or GoG if given the choice.

But that treat has now been taken away for good, as EA is ending its On the House program forever.

If you try to visit the On the House page on Origin, you are instead directed to its Origin Access service, which suggests that the feature may ultimately be locked behind the Origin pay wall. It's only a few dollars a month, but if it hasn't attracted a gamer yet, the promise of more free games is unlikely to do it.

This was discovered by Redditor BigWhomas, who upon spotting this strange redirect got in touch with Origin support to see what was going on. They were informed however, that the service was closed and there was no news of it coming back.

They did suggest that it would be worth keeping an eye on EA's social media accounts for all the latest news though. Whether any of that news will relate to Origin On the House, remains to be seen.

Did any of you make regular use of Origin's free game system?
