Seemingly unperturbed by the enormous backlash from gamers towards Star Wars: Battlefront II, or at least willfully ignorange of the problems created by such a game's monetary mechanics, EA will include two different in-game currencies for Battlefield V.
The two currencies in Battlefield V will basically do the same thing, but be earnable in different ways. Paid-for currency can be used to buy cosmetic items, while the currency that can be earned through play will help unlock those same outfits. So at least it's all only for cosmetic items. For now at least.
While you might wonder why a singular currency couldn't exist for that same function, that would avoid the idea that EA wants to encourage people to pay for the premium currency by making it seem like something special.
EA has at least confirmed to Polygon that it won't be utilizing loot boxes in the game and that should mean that randomization is limited. That said, EA is gunning hard for player customization in the game, offering different skins for character clothing, faces, facepaint and weapons. The weapons will have seven points of customization and vehicles will also have several cosmetic options to choose from. EA will be doling out special skins at events and tournaments, though currencies will be the primary method of unlocking them in-game.
As Polygon highlights though, EA has promised that gameplay progression will not be linked with the unlocks, so there's that at least.
Battlefield V is set to launch on October 19 on PC, Xbox One and PS4.
