EA is working on fixing Sims 4 'gay' name issue

Automated filtering is a necessary part of many an online world, but unfortunately it does tend to lack the nuances of actual humans looking over the content. That's the cause of the latest problem surrounding EA's recently released Sims 4 game, which has shown a proclivity for banning online gallery character names that feature the words "gay," "homosexual," or "queer" in them.

This happens regardless of where in the world you are or in what language you input the names, suggesting that it was a deliberate, if perhaps not particularly well thought out, feature.

It should be pointed out of course, that this only happens if you attempt to take your LGBT named character online through the gallery mode. You can call your sims whatever you want when they're offline.

EA has promised to fix the issue and is said to be working on it right now: "The Sims has a long history of supporting stories that players want to tell, irrespective of gender preference," the EA representative said to Kotaku. "The Gallery uses an automated filtering program that filters out certain words, including some of the ones you mentioned. We are aware of have been working on a fix, which will be out soon."

No word on the addition of pools or toddlers though.
