The mystery surrounding Elite Dangerous and the strange aliens that were encountered for the first time earlier this year has only deepened in the months that followed. We still know very little about the race, now known as the Thargoids, but what we do know is that they have enormous ships and have the ability to pull players out of witch space, which is otherwise impossible in the game.
Adding to the mystery, over the past couple of days, players have discovered as many as five different alien structures attributed to the Thargoids. With bizarre spikes and tentacles, these towers actually open up if you bring certain alien artefacts to them and inside, there's a Thargoid stellarium. That room emitted light and sound, which has since been decoded into some form of map, though where it leads, is anyone's guess.
It's possible it's a galaxy of some kind, though many have highlighted the lack of similarities to the Milky Way. Others have suggested it could be a representation of the size of the Thargoid empire, or what it once was, prompting concern that there is no way humanity could win a war against them.
For now the Thargoid's don't appear antagonistic, though it would be a rare thing in gaming to have a strange, potentially threatening alien presence, and not have someone try to blow it up (thanks Polygon).
