Enlisted is looking to take a leaf out of the book of campaign, map-based shooter franchise Heroes and Generals, to add a little more meaning to the run and gun battles we all take part in online. Developed by Gaijin Entertainment, the crowdfunding effort wants to deliver a more war-like experience.
That means it will often be unfair, unbalanced and leave you overwhelmed and outnumbered, but that's much more like the battles that the game is looking to simulate.
"Battles involving equal teams in equal conditions are, of course, interesting as a competition. But they do not have the immersion or the thrill of real battle, where balanced forces and symmetrical objectives are unlikely," the Enlisted campaign states "You may be a defender of Moscow in the trenches dug around the city, facing advancing enemy tanks and superior forces, with an objective to hold the enemy, to stop the advancing army in its tracks with all the resources you have."
The developers have enough money to develop the Invasion of Normandy and Battle of Moscow campaign already, but are asking for more to develop a Tunisian campaign. If it reaches $500,000, Enlisted will have another campaign that will be chosen by the players themselves, but again, based on a real world campaign from World War II.
At $750,000 players can choose an additional "module," though what that is is anyone's guess and at a million, the game will be ported over to consoles.
Those kicking in money now can expect to get early access to gameplay, as well as additional weapons for use in-game.
Enlisted is expected to debut in 2017, in Early Access on Steam.
