Evolve gameplay is cooperative, competitive monster hunting

Despite it having been in development since 2009, to date we haven't heard much about Turtle Rock Studio's coop shooter, Evolve - that is until now. In a new trailer and devblog, we see not only gameplay, but the developers talk us through different aspects of the game and the characters, on both sides of the battle.

Evolve games are for five players at a time, four hunters and one hunted. The hunters are made up of different classes: a trapper, medic, assault and support. They each have different abilities, skills and weapon sets and are designed to work together to bring down the enemy.

Speaking of which, it's a monster, quite literally. There will be different types to choose from, but in the latest trailer we see only the Goliath, a L4D Tank-like creature, which grows in size and strength as you evolve it, gaining the ability to throw rocks and breath fire as it becomes more powerful.

How do you evolve? By eating animals and plant life, but you'll only get a chance to do that if you can outrun or outmanoeuvre the hunters. Using stealth, guiding them into dangerous local animals or just outright attacking them with guerilla tactics are just some of the ways this can be achieved. But watch out for birds taking flight, or your massive form silhouetting in the distance, as the hunters will be after you soon enough.

Get to your full size though, and the hunters become the hunted, as you can turn on them for real and try and pound them into the jungle dirt.

More maps, more monsters and more details are going to be announced soon, as we ramp up for a release of Evolve on Xbox One, PS4 and PC later this year.
