Cat lovers have amassed more than $8.78 million in KickStarter funding for a card game about exploding kittens.
Exploding Kittens is now the highest funded game on KickStarter, dethroning the famous Android-based console, Ouya.
The game is created by Elan Lee (Xbox, ARGs), Matthew Inman (The Oatmeal author), and Shane Small (Xbox, Marvel). The trio describe the game as a "highly strategic kitty-powered version of Russian Roulette."
In Exploding Kittens, players take turns drawing cards until someone draws an exploding kitten and loses the game. The deck is made up of cards that let you avoid exploding by peeking at cards before you draw, forcing your opponent to draw multiple cards, or shuffling the deck.
One have to wonder if such a simple card game could've fared that well hadn't it been for its – relatively – famous creators.
