Fallout 4 was never the prettiest of open world games, but it looks better today than it did at launch. However that's partly because of a new texture pack which upgrades everything to much higher resolutions and it takes a whopping 58GB of space when installed.
High resolution textures are a great way to make a game look crisper and more detailed. Instead of a blurry brown and black lined wooden fence, you get detailed boards with burns and cracks in the woodwork. Faces don't have quite such a flat, emotionless look to them - there's razor burn and wrinkles to their lips.
All of that goes a long way to improving immersion, but it does take quite a tole on your system. As well as requiring nearly 60GB of space, you'll also need to meet the new recommended system requirements so that the game doesn't chug itself into a slideshow.
You'll need to be running a 64bit version of Windows 7, 8 or 10, have an Intel Core i7-5820K or better, a GTX 1080 8GB or an AMD Radeon RX 490 8GB or better and at least eight gigabytes of RAM, though more is always better.
If you can match that or exceed it, you should have no problem with the new textures and Fallout 4 should look that bit nicer.
Other additions in the patch include new categories for mods and better labelling among the best ones. It also fixes a few stability problems found in the game, as well as crashes which were occurring within the Load Order menu.
