Fantasy Flight is turning Civilization into a board game

Sid Meier's Civlization: A New Dawn, is a brand new board game coming out of Fantasy Flight Games based on the hit PC, turn-based-strategy title. Designed to be faithful to the PC experience, but transition it to something that's more visually appealing and concise on the tabletop, Civilization is set to release at some point during Q4 of this year.

Like the game it's based on, Civilization: A New Dawn will put players in the shoes of some of the most famous leaders in world history, charging them with furthering the cause of their nation and combating the success of others. They'll manage their nation's fortunes across the ages, rewriting history and pushing towards the greatest wonders the world has ever seen.

You'll expand territory, research new technologies and foster armies as you vie for control over the world from your enemies and allies alike.

There are also barbarians to compete with, city states to conquer and natural resources to exploit as you go, though the ultimate victory conditions will be different each game. Fantasy Flight has made use of randomized condition cards, so what you need to do to win will be different every time.

That said, players will still have strategic and tactical decisions to make depending on their chosen methods of domination. Will you be a great military power? Will you push for peace and culture? Will you use clever diplomacy to set your allies against one another? It's all possible in the tabletop game and represented by cards and figures as you manipulate the world around you.

Overall the gameplay sounds a little like an advanced version of Settlers of Catan, though with added militarism and deeper economic factors.

You can pre-order the game now from the main It should ship within the next few months.
