If you were hoping to play the remastered and remade version of Final Fantasy VII on anything other than a PlayStation console, at least soon after launch, you're out of luck. New shots of the game's packaging have revealed that Final Fantasy VII Remake is going to be a timed PS4 exclusive for a whole year. That means if you want to play the game any time before March 2021, you'll need a PS4 to do it.
Final Fantasy fans have been clamouring for a remake of FFVII for years. Many consider it to be the best Final Fantasy game ever released, and with remasters and HD re-releases of other entries in the series, it seemed to make sense. But Square dragged its feet for years, releasing slightly uplifted versions on PC with new save systems, but little else. Finally, in 2015 it was announced that a remake was fully under development, but that it would bring changes to the combat system.
This will be Final Fantasy VII's story, with some serious reworking. Some fans are OK with that, but they are unlikely to be pleased about not being able to play it after launch.
In the packaging shot released by Square Enix, we can clearly see the "PlayStation Exclusive" sticker, with a note saying that it's a timed exclusive until March 3, 2021. At that point it should see a general release on other consoles and PC, but until then, it's PS4 only.
Does this put you off buying the game?
