There's no denying that out of the major consoles from the current-generation, Sony won the war. Microsoft might have sold a good number of Xbox Ones and its One X might be slightly more powerful than the PS4 Pro, but Sony has sold way more systems and way more games in total. Five years on from the launch of the original PS4, and Sony has announced that it sold a whopping 86.1 million consoles, and as many as 777.9 games.
Those are fantastic numbers for any generation, putting the PS4 just behind the massively selling PS2, which shipped some 87 million units in its first five years and more than 150 million consoles in total.
Of the near-800 million PS4 games sold, the biggest sellers were Call of Duty: Black Ops II, Call of Duty: WWII, Fifa 17, Fifa 18, and Grand Theft Auto V, as per WCCFTech. That list has a lot in common with the most popular titles on the platform, but free games like Fortnite also make an appearance too.
The most popular Dualshock 4 colors are unsurprising, dominated by common ones like Black, Blue and Red, color schemes, but the camo design is in the top five too.
All of these stats come just as Sony is starting to wind-down this generation of console, with increasing rumors of hardware and software developers moving forward to the PS5. Nothing is known about the new-gen system yet, but rumors suggest it will also run on AMD hardware, potentially built on AMD's next-generation Navi architecture. It is expected to be announced in 2019, with a 2020 release date.
