Cross-play in Fortnite is now live, meaning anyone on any platform can play against anyone on any other -- albeit with some segregation for keyboard and mouse users and cheaters. But as great news as that is for gamers wishing for an even greater number of players to play with or for a chance to game with friends and family on other platforms, that's no good for PlayStation games who have been hit with the "account curse."
The so-called curse is limited to the unique situation of PlayStation accounts that are linked with a Fortnite player's Epic account. While The Switch, Xbox One, and PC accounts can all be twinned with the same Epic account, that's not the case for PlayStation gamers, meaning playing on different platforms with the same account is still impossible at this time. But that's going to change this November, as per Eurogamer.
Great news! But not being able to unlink my PSN ID from the ghost Epic account I was encouraged to create really puts a damper on the announcement. Is there any hope of this being done before November? pic.twitter.com/klNFvSL7xR

In the next few days, Epic will introduce an account unmerging feature, whereby PlayStation gamers can untethered themselves from that console's account system. Better yet though, in November, it will introduce account merging, so that anyone on any platform can blur together their accounts on all consoles, smart devices and PCs, in order to have just one, singular Epic account manage them all.
For those who want to start linking accounts now, the simplest place to do it is on Epic's website.
