The introduction of official keyboard and mouse support for console versions of Fortnite hasn't gone down well with everyone, as many feel that it gives an unfair advantage to those who can take advantage of the improved accuracy and key functionality of such a set up. To counter that growing problem, Epic has announced new changes to the way Fortnite matches gamers together to help separate keyboard and mouse gamers from those on gamepads.
"We’re actually working on some matchmaking tech," Epic said in a statement, via PCGamesn. "That’ll pair you against folks based on your choice of peripherals."
Although Epic isn't coming completely clean about this process just yet, it promises more details next week. When asked by one fan whether this meant that console keyboard and mouse players could then play against PC keyboard and mouse players, Epic once again said that it would reveal more details soon. That suggests to us that that may be a feature that it's looking to implement.
If true, that could mean a lot more people for Fortnite players to play against. Although there are already plenty to match up with, a wider spread of gamers is always preferable in competitive multiplayer games that rely on masses of potential opponents to keep matchmaking quick and reduce downtime between games.
Epic will also likely implement some measure of protective system against people spoofing gamepad controls with a keyboard and mouse, as that could provide an even greater advantage once legitimate keyboard and mouse users are brought together.
