More gamers battled it out in Fortnite, specifically its Battle Royale mode, in October than played Bluehole's exceedingly popular PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. Although the latter title proved to be the more profitable, and the second most profitable game in Eastern markets, Fortnite is clearly making in-roads on its player base.
This data comes from a report by SuperData (via PCGamesN) which showed that League of Legends was the most profitable game of October, as usual, while Battelgrounds followed closely behind. Other top earners in Asian markets during that month include Fantasy Westward Journey Online II, Destiny 2 and Dungeon Fighter Online.
However, the big news to come from this listing is that Fortnite had more active players during the month than Battlegrounds did. While that's somewhat to do with the free to play model that Fortnite employs, it's also indicative of Battlegrounds not being quite the dominant force it was initially.
That's perhaps something for other developers to take away from these stats. Free to play works wonders for player numbers, but Epic also made sure to push Fortnite onto lots of platforms early on, giving it a leg up on Battleground in terms of console player numbers.
Other big earners in October include Crossfire, World of Warcraft, World of Tanks, Middle-earth: Shadow of War and Roblox.
