Head of Valve, Gabe Newell, has given some hope to those who are still holding out for the release of Half Life 3, Left 4 Dead 3, or funnily enough, Portal 3. Although he didn't confirm any of these games was in the works at Valve, he mocked the recent report that Half Life 3 had never existed, said that Valve was working on several unannounced projects and claimed that Valve was still developing fully-fledged, single player experiences.
That sounds like at least one of those games is going to get a sequel at some point. Indeed, wouldn't it be poetic if Valve released third versions of all three games?
In other news thanks to the AMA, we learned that Valve is still planning to create movies based on the Half Life and Portal universes, it's working on its support structure to improve response times and will consider adding the ability to disable notifications for those that don't like them.
It may even allow more pornographic games on Steam in the future.
Personally, Newell said he was most interested in brain/computer interfaces right now, suggesting Valve may look to pioneer well beyond its VR controller inputs in the future. For now though Valve is working on improving its VR controllers, as well as looking into advanced AIs which could come into play in games and software in the future.
When asked about his favourite Valve game ever made, Newell said it was Portal 2. When it comes to non-Valve games, he claims that Plants vs Zombies is one of his top choices.
Are there any other questions you wish Newell had answered as part of the AMA?
