Gamer hotel opens up in Amsterdam with consoles in each room

As if you needed yet another reason to visit the capital of the Netherlands, Amsterdam has just opened up a brand new hotel, aimed at bringing in the gamers. It's known as The Arcade Hotel and comes equipped with a retro console in every room with a stack of games to play, as well as its very own library of comics that you can check out.

On top of that, handheld consoles are on hand for when you visit the bar, and picking one up and playing any particular game is encouraged. In the lobby, there's multiplayer orientated consoles which anyone passing through can pick up and have a game on, joining in with the action.

This sounds like a perfect hotel to some, and is designed to be just that: catering to a different clientèle than many other parts of the city.

Indeed The Arcade Hotel is located a little way from the cheaper tourist areas, designed to offer gamers somewhere to retreat to in the evening after exploring the city and enjoying some of its other big attractions.

Rooms go for as little as 85 euros a night ($90), all the way up to 150 for bigger beds, a giant bath in your bedroom, and better views. There doesn't appear to be much in the way of extra facilities like a pool or gym, but they know their audience. There's late checkout, big, cheap breakfasts and endless supplies of free tea and coffee.

I know where I'm heading on my next abroad trip.
