Just as music has the Billboard chart in the US and the Radio 1 chart in the UK, so do games have their own chart, which ranks them based solely on retail sales, the NPD PC game sales chart (N. America). Just as in the music industry this chart will not tell you which games are the best but will merely inform you of which ones made the most money. Some may claim popularity is representative of quality and some may not. It is not for us however, to debate that age old issue.
The top selling titles hold few surprises but the leader of the pack may come as a slight surprise to some. In a week which saw the release of some massive titles such as Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Enter the Matrix, and RollerCoaster Tycoon 2: Wacky Worlds expansion pack, the outsider, The Sims: Superstar, claimed the top spot. This week also saw the end of the long lasting love affair between Medal of Honor - Allied Assault, with the Top Ten.
We have included the N. American prices for each game on the Top Ten since the price of each game plays a big part in its retail career, that is probably why Diablo II has re-entered the chart.
For the week of May 11-17, 2003 the top ten list was as follows:
1 The Sims: Superstar EA USD 30
2 Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Rockstar USD 41
3 Enter the Matrix Atari USD 44
4 RollerCoaster Tycoon 2: Wacky Worlds Atari USD 23
5 the Sims Deluxe EA USD 44
6 Command & Conquer: Generals EA USD 46
7 Delta Force: Black Hawk Down NovaLogic USD 39
8 The Sims: Unleashed EA USD 29
9 Battlefield 1942 EA USD 47
10 Diablo II VU Games USD 21
