DRM free games retail platform, GoG, has announced a new feature for users that will make the experience much more Steam-like and give them new opportunities for social interaction and sharing. GoG user profiles lets everyone see what their friends on GoG are playing and achieving and make it so that individuals can share information on a public feed, their private profile and through a friends list.
The "Feed" will act as the centerpiece of the profile, we're told. There games your friends have been playing will be displayed, along with achievements unlocked by you and them, what milestones you have all passed, as well as any screenshots you all have taken and forum activity.
In contrast, the profile page is all about you. It summarises your activity, detailing your achievements and games played. It will also list information like what you've been playing and the time you've invested in the different games - much like a Steam profile would. It will also give you an insight into how far you are from unlocking achievements, with the option to directly compare your progress with that of your friends.
A new "Friends" section on the profile page will give you a quick snapshot of your pals' profiles, making it easier to see what they've been up to individually, rather than the general purpose feed area.
Alongside all of these new features though, GoG has also introduced some new privacy features. There are now three settings you can choose from, letting you control just how public your data is. They can be accessed and controlled through the "Privacy and Settings" area of your profile.
You'll be able to see all of this now by simply logging in to your GoG account on the main website, or through the GoG Galaxy client when downloaded.
