GOG.com announced its Galaxy online gaming platform.
Launching this year, Galaxy will enable online multiplayer, social interactions, achievements, game updates and cross-platform play with third party platforms such as Steam. According to GOG.com, Galaxy will never be mandatory for any game. Instead, gamers are free to pick and choose what features they want to use; or ignore the platform altogether.
Moreover, some Galaxy features can be used without signing up at all. For example, you don't need an account to download games updates, but you have to sign in if you want to access your friends list and use social features.
