"The results from [Grand Theft Auto : ] Chinatown are an important benchmark for the industry, as it will be the best-performing mature rated title on the Nintendo DS to date coupled with one of the strongest mature-rated game brands," EEDAR analyst Jesse Divnich said a couple of days ago.
At the time, Divnich was estimating that Chinatown Wars would sell around 200,000 units in March. Divnich believed that this figure is very low and that it discourage publishers from publishing mature games unto the popular Nintendo's handheld.
"With the majority of publishers currently taking a risk-adverse stance, we expect this to slow the growth rate of future mature rated titles on the DS,"
Today, Silicon Alley Insider revealed the actual GTA: Chinatown Wars March 2009 sales figure to be a mere 88,704 units.
Take-Two reaffirmed their confident in the long-term success of Chinatown Wars, and noted that March was difficult for all videogame publishers.
