About six months to the release of GTA IV and politicians are already protesting against it.
The recently released GTA IV trailer takes place in Liberty City, a satirical incarnation of New York City with most of New York's landmarks such as the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building, and the Brooklyn Bridge.
New York officials are not happy with the violent game taking place in their city. "Setting Grand Theft Auto in the safest big city in America would be like setting Halo in Disneyland", said City Councilman Peter Vallone, chairman of the Council's Public Safety Committee.
GTA has typically had the player killing police officers, dealing drugs and running over pedestrians, but the new trailer titled "Things Will Be Different" hints at a change. The few words spoken in the trailer are "Life is complicated; I've killed people, smuggled people, sold people. Perhaps, here things will be different." But, judging by the history of the popular series, this is not expected.
Rockstar Games, the game developer, declined to comment yesterday saying that they would like the trailer to speak for itself.
