With GTA V for PC on the horizon, gamers with monstrous PCs are salivating at the chance to pit their hardware against one of the best looking games around that has had its fair share of tweaks for the PC version. It actually turns out that running the game at a 'playable' 30FPS at 4K resolution and maxed out graphics won't be too difficult.
According to comments made by Kevin Hoare, president of Rockstar Toronto, GTA V at 4K will require at least an AMD 7870 or Nvidia GTX 760 with 2GB of VRAM to play at 30 FPS. 60FPS however will be another thing entirely he said, suggesting that a high-end SLI or Xfire set up would be needed.
Although the high resolution, high frame rate gaming needs something quite hefty, that's the case for most contemporary games. The fact that you don't need a monstrous GPU to have a playable game at 4K too, suggests quite a well optimised title.
"The optimal way to run the game will depend on an individual’s preference," said Hoare (via PCG). "Our focus for Grand Theft Auto V was to ensure most people could run the game comfortably, and provide a wide range of options to tailor your experience to your system."
For 1080p resolution, a much more common setting, gamers will be at least a GTX 660 or HD7870. That should be doable for most.
GTA V PC is set for release on April 14.
