No doubt there are tens – if not hundreds – of online game cheaters who get banned every day without being noticed by other players. However, this wasn't the case for one Guild Wars 2 offender who underwent public shaming as part of his banning process.
A Guild War 2 hacker who goes by the handle "DarkSide" spent the last 3 weeks terrorizing other players and dominating the game's World-vs-World PvP mode. Using hack tools, Darkside was able to teleport to his objectives directly, deal insane amounts of damage and nullify all damage done to him. Hundreds of players reported him for 3 weeks before the developers finally intervened.
Guild War 2 administrators took control of the cheater's characters, stripped them naked then had them jump off to their doom before deleting them and banning the account. Even more, they recorded the whole matter and uploaded it to YouTube.
Community response has been mixed between players who found the public shaming act unprofessional and non-deterrent for other hackers while others were happy to see justice served and revenge taken. What do you think?
