CD Projekt Red is looking to continue the Witcher franchise in its digital card game form, with the announcement of a brand new single player campaign for Gwent. Called Thronebreaker, it will feature the queen of Rivia. Meve, as she's known to her nearest and dearest, must head out on a dangerous journey which the players will be in charge of helping her survive.
Meve isn't a common character in the Witcher games, or even one that many are well read on. As PCGamer points out, she's somewhat of a fringe character, only really mentioned in passing. However, she is the one who is said to have knighted Geralt during his storied monster hunting career, meaning she's the reason he's called "Geralt of Rivea" at all.
Although it's not yet clear what a single player campaign will be like in Gwent, CD Projekt has said that it will take players to places within Rivia that they've never seen before. They'll gather resources, go on quests and take part in custom story battles utilising their Gwent decks to win.
Set to be released before the end of the year, it won't arrive until after the Gwent Masters ladder begins on September first, giving us our first taste of what a professional Gwent scene looks like.
