Valve has finally confirmed 24 April, 2006 as the release date for Half-Life 2: Aftermath while on the same day a Platinum edition of Half-Life 2 will also become available.

Speaking to the media Valve Director of Marketing, Doug Lombardi, said, We're currently targeting April 24th for the release of both Aftermath and Platinum.

Aftermath immediately follows Half-Life 2 and deals with the events set in motion during Half-Life 2. You've done critical damage to the Citadel. The entire area surrounding City 17 is about to be destroyed. You and Alyx are leading the flight from the city getting up close and personal with some of the creatures and sights from the end of the game. Speculation had initially suggested that you will only play as Alyx in the expansion but Valve writer, Tim Edwards, has since confirmed that you will also get to play as Gordon. Due to the destruction of City 17 infrastructure, creatures that previously had no access to the City will now be an added threat for your characters.

Half-Life 2: Aftermath will be available over Steam for USD 19.99 and a boxed retail version will also be made available from Valve's new partner, EA. Half-Life 2: Platinum Edition, will also be distributed by EA and will feature Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2 Deathmatch, Half-Life 2: Aftermath, Counter-Strike: Source, and Day of Defeat: Source in a single package. Pricing for the Platinum Edition version of H-L 2 has not yet been released.
