Halo Infinite was one of the more exciting announcements made during Microsoft's E3 showcase and although we don't have all the details yet, it looks like Microsoft has been watching Bungie and Activision's efforts post Halo and will be bringing some of that ongoing, games-as-a-service model it employs to the Halo franchise.
"The Master Chief returns in Halo Infinite – the next chapter of the legendary franchise," Microsoft's blurb states. "Developed by 343 Industries and created with our new Slipspace Engine, Halo Infinite was revealed at the Xbox E3 2018 Briefing with a thrilling engine demo that provides a glimpse into the future of the Halo franchise, leading it into new and unexpected directions."
The engine reveal is indeed beautiful and shows that the game will likely look gorgeous wherever you go. which will likely be somewhere on the new Halo ringworld that's showcased in the trailer. Master Chief is back too, though will players take on the role of that major series character or one of the grunts who are carting around in a Warthog?
Unfortunately, we just don't know at this time, as Microsoft and 343 Industries kept their lips clammed up tight other than debuting the game through this trailer. We can infer that the Covenant are back too and that we're a few years on from previous entries in the series.
"Infinite" would certainly suggest this isn't a standalone experience either, but we're starting to reach there.
What do you think Halo Infinite will be about?
