Harmonix, the company best known for developing the Guitar Hero series and kicking off the rhythm game craze in the late '00s, is back with a brand new franchise called Super Beat Sports. This collection of minigames for the Nintendo Switch blends the musical and sports gaming genres together to create a very different kind of experience.
Playing sports in time with the beat is no picnic, but the games are all designed to be pick up and play, making them solid party experiences, especially if you have novice gamers around. You can play alone or locally with up to three friends using the Joy-Cons, or a Pro Controller or two. There are new difficulty levels to unlock and high-scores to achieve - you can even compare them to your friends across the world.
The are a number of aesthetics unlocks in the game too, giving you a reason to keep playing as you improve your skills.
As for the games themselves, there's a baseball game that sees you hitting musical orbs into strange creatures' mouths, a volleyball experience with customizable bats, a pinball setting mixed with hockey and a whole lot more. All of them are musically inspired though, so you'll need to stick to the rhythm to win.
Super Beat Sports will debut this fall on the Nintendo Switch.
