Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice was one of the most striking mid-tier game releases of 2017, offering a compelling story, dark and atmospheric environments, and solid action adventure gameplay. That experience will soon be enjoyable in virtual reality on the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, but you'll need a very powerful graphics card to run it.
The VR build of Senua's Sacrifice has been under development for years, with a team working on it alongside the development of the main game. Several challenges were faced and solved throughout that time, including perspective, where they opted for third-person instead of first, which meant that linear movement would be possible and comfortable, and frame rate, which can sit comfortably at 90FPS without too much difficulty.
You will need a powerful PC to pull that off though. The developers are pushing for a minimum of a GTX 1080 graphics card, which is quite a tall order at this time since that's at least $500. However, with a brand new generation of Nvidia graphics cards expected to debut in the months to come, it could be that before long that kind of performance is much more affordable for mainstream gamers.
If you have an Oculus Rift or HTC Vive VR headset, you can look forward to enjoying Senua's Sacrifice in VR on July 31 and if you already own the original game, you'll get it for free too.
