Remember Hellgate: London? Few people do, but it was an ambitious MMO when it released in 2007. It offered a blurring of physical and ranged combat in a neo-London setting with demons, Knights Templar, and a post-apocalyptic landscape. It didn't last long among the glut of WoW clones and big success stories like Guild Wars, though, and died shortly after launch. Until it came back two years later as a free to play title... which died again in the years that followed.
Now though, it's coming back yet again, not in its original MMO guise, but as a single player experience. Not only that, but it's got a bunch of new content added that was originally going to be released as an expansion, called Hellgate: Tokyo.
The game will still feature the same six classes to choose from, each with their own skills and combat abilities to learn and master. There are quests, dungeons, and plenty of character customization to dig into. Whether the plot will make much sense without other players around to bounce it off of remains to be seen, but Hellgate: London is coming back and maybe, third-time-lucky, it will be a success of sorts.
