The Icelandic soccer team fared pretty well in this year's UEFA European Championships but they will not appear in FIFA 17 after the country's soccer football association refused to grant EA the rights for peanuts.
According to the BBC, EA tried to buy the rights to use the team's likeness in its games for a meager $15,000; a move that was perceived by the Football Association of Iceland (KSI) as taking advantage of being the sole buyer in order to get the rights "almost for free."
"The performance at the Euros show that we are quite a good team and many would like to play with our team," said KSI president Geir Thorsteinsson. "It's sad for the players - but the criticism should be towards EA Sports."
The KSI responded to EA with an undisclosed counter-offer which was rejected by the company. FIFA 17 is scheduled to launch worldwide next week, so it is no longer possible for the team to make it into the game discs which must've been printed and shipped to stores by now. Of course, it is always possible for the team to be added to the game post-launch as a DLC.
