Ikea is set to sell Asus' gaming furtniture starting in May this year, beginning in Japan, and opening up to the rest of the world throughout 2021, expanding to every major territory by October. This new set will include storage units, chairs, desks, cupholders, floor mats, mouse bungees neck pillows, and more. There will be over 30 products in total, beginning a potential new avenue for the classic furniture seller and some serious competition for boutique gaming desk and chair manufacturers.
"At IKEA, we know a lot about smart home furnishing solutions, but we are novices at gaming," the Ikea statement reads. "So, how to create a properly high-performing gaming range? To contribute to a better everyday life for all gamers, IKEA partnered with ROG (Republic of Gamers), an ASUS sub-brand, keeping the leading position in gaming industry and designing high quality, innovative hardware and gear for gamers. ROG has in-depth knowledge of the gaming industry and want to find new ways to make gaming blend into the home. Combining the best of these two worlds, the collaboration aimed to democratise the gaming experience, by creating relevant, functional, beautiful and affordable products and complete gaming solutions to make it easier for everyone to create the setup and the home they want."
The range was originally launched in China in January and has been popular there among PC gamers. It will focus on traditional gamer styling initially, but hopes to expand with more gender neutral options in the future, taking note that almost half of all gamers are female.
Outside of desks and storage units, Ikea will also offer products like ring lights, phone holders, headphone stands, and cupholders.
