Although it entered open beta in early 2014, Infinite Crisis, the DC themed MOBA title has only been widely available for the past six months. However, it's nos set to close its doors as unfortunately for the developers, they just couldn't generate the buzz necessary to make it profitable.
Announced by community manager Celestrata on the official forums, the company said that development would end immediately and that the game would cease to operate as of August 14.
"This was an extremely difficult decision to make. On behalf of the entire Infinite Crisis team we want to thank all of you for your feedback, support and for joining together to create one of the best communities in gaming," they said.
The fan reaction has been - unsurprisingly - shocked and upset, with many taking to petition websites to try and figure out some way to stop the game ending. However considering that development has been halted so suddenly, clearly it's no longer a profitable venture for Turbine, so it's pulled the plug.
In its defence, it was competing in a very competitive space, going up against the likes of League of Legends and DotA 2, as well as smaller competitors like Heroes of Newerth, SMITE and upcoming big names like Overwatch and Gigantic, which look to shake up the formula in much bigger ways than Infinite Crisis did.
