After spending millions of dollars and thousands of man hours researching, developing and promoting Larrabee as the next leap in graphics cards, Intel has finally thrown the towel and cancelled its retail release.
Intel has admitted that the cancellation is due to Larrabee's software and hardware development being both too far behind schedule, and that its performance being below expected at this point.
The current version of Larrabee will be used for Intel and its close partners' research and development. Development of Larrabee will not be halted and a new Larrabee chip is expected to be announced sometime in 2010 or 2011.
