As was expected, Intel has announced a wide range of price cuts for many of its products. The price changes affect its desktop and mobile processors as well as some server chips. The most dramatic and surprising price cut was that for the Pentium 4 H/T 560 chip, introduced just over a month ago. The processor features a 1M L2 cache, 3.60 GHz, 800 MHz FSB, 90nm and saw its price decrease by 34.54 per cent.
While the 560 saw its price drop from USD 637 to USD 417, the 550 and 540 also saw their prices decrease by 33.33 and 21.58 per cent respectively. The 550, which is similar to the 560 but runs at 3.40 GHz, will now sell for USD 278 from USD 417, while the 540 which runs at 3.20 GHz, will now cost USD 218 from USD 278.
The Extreme Edition 3.40 GHz chip with 2M L3 cache and a 800 MHz FSB will unfortunately retain its USD 999 price tag.
Intel's mobile range also saw price cuts with the Mobile Pentium 4 538 chip (1M L2 cache 3.20A GHz 533 MHz FSB 90nm) going down to USD 234 from USD 294, a decrease of 20.41 per cent.
The Celeron D 335 processor with a 256k L2 cache, running at 2.80 GHz and with a 533 MHz FSB (90nm) also saw its price cut by 11.97 per cent from USD 117 to USD 103.
