Intel seems to be quite weary of AMD's new line of processors as it appears it has pushed forward its planned price cuts. While it had been widely expected that Intel would announce price cuts in late August or early September, it is now claimed that those price cuts will take place on July 22.
According to PCStats, these price cuts will be quite impressive and one example used quotes the Intel Quad-Core Core 2 Quad Q6600 (2.4GHz/4MB L2 x2/1066MHzFSB) processor, released in March of this year. On July 22 that particular processor will be 68.7 per cent cheaper since launch and will be available for a mere USD 266. A new model, the Quad Q6700 (2.66GHz/4MB L2 x2/1066MHzFSB), will also be introduced at USD 530.
On July 22, three Core 2 Duo 6050 chips will be introduced and will feature competitive prices. The three new models, E6550 (2.33GHz), E6750 (2.66GHz), and E6850 (3GHz)(all featuring 1333 MHz FSB), will be priced at USD 266, USD 183 and USD 163 respectively. Additionally the E4400 value chip will see its price drop to USD 113 while a new processor, the E4500, will launch and will feature 2.2GHz clock speed, 2MB L2 Cache and 800MHz FSB, all for USD 133.
