Doom and its sequel, Doom II, are two of the most beloved first-person shooters in the history of the genre. They helped define what an FPS game is and now you can own the very original floopy discs of the second game in that series, currently owned by game creator John Romero himself. You'll need to put up some serious cash to do so though, as with just a few hours to go, the bids have reached the dizzying heights of $3,000.
The auction has all five original discs and they're in decent condition, though the listing does suggest that the glue on some of them has started to loosten a little. That's not entirely unsurprising, considering these discs are now 23 years old.
There is no box with these discs, nor instructions, so collector's may wish to shop around for a few extras to really complete this as a collector's item, though having John Romero himself put his signature down on the discs would certianly go some way to making them more valuable than they even are currently.
I've decided to put up a set of DOOM 2 floppies (3.5") on eBay! Will sign if you like (if you win). https://t.co/sNW6xR7Upo #games

It's not clear why Romero is putting the discs up for sale, though he seemed quite jovial in his original tweet about it, so presumably he's not in any sort of financial difficulty.
Would you be willing to spend a few thousand dollars for this piece of gaming history?
