Kholat is an exploratory horror title that's now available on Steam and elsewhere, based around the Dyatlov Pass incident, which saw nine hikers die mysteriously in the frozen wastes of Eastern Russia. While there are certainly some strong theories that can help you sleep at night, the slow, narration of what supposedly happened, alongside visuals for the game makes it all the more chilling.
It's not clear at this time how exactly the game plans to address the incident, though there are suggestions from menu art that it could be some sort of creature that will hunt the player throughout the experience. The first five minutes at least are quite eerie, but have an almost Dear Esther feel about it.
Whether that will last or the player has to have some more urgency about their actions as the game progresses remains to be seen.
If you want to try the game out for yourself, it's available on Steam now for $18.
