Following on from the trend of bands showing up in all manner of digital mediums, Korn is set to play a concert inside the free, cross-platform MMO title, AdventureQuest3D. It's a promotional vehicle for the band's next album, but also an intriguing way to reach out to new potential fans and audiences with very little expense. It's a potentially enormous gig for the band, larger than anything they could theoretically do in the real world, but it doesn't cost them much at all to set up the basic equipment to record it.
It's pretty cheap for the game developer too, while potentially bringing in Korn fans to the game for the first time.
"Get in the most brutal mosh pit ever..," the game developer's announcement reads. "And make video game history! Korn is playing the grand opening of the Battle Concert Arena in the massively multiplayer games, AdventureQuest 3D & AQWorlds. The band will play on stage while you fight monsters, score loot, and hear a new song from Korn's upcoming album.... THE NOTHING."
It's a great deal with the players too. As the promotional site highlights, there are no ticket prices, no travel time. You just login and enjoy the gig.
To make this possible, the game developers have created digital avatars of Korn, which will strut about the stage playing their instruments while their real-life counterparts are actively playing in the real world, transmitting everything to the eyes and ears of watching gamers.
It's set to take place on Tuesday, August 20 at sundown on the East coast. That's a little vague, but if you login at the right-ish time, we assume you'll find more information available. AdventureQuest 3D is playable on MacOS, iOS, Windows PCs, and Android devices, so you can play it on anything you like and enjoy the concert on anything you like.
