See? I told you this would be the year Esports go mainstream,. At the very least this is the year where the LoL virus overtakes the entire globe, as it turns out League of Legends has over 27 million daily players, with as many as 7.5 million people playing at one time.
That not only shows huge figures, but massive growth. Just last October Riot reported that it was averaging around 12 million players per day. Monthly it reported back then that it was doing around 32 million players. While impressive, that's nothing compared to what Riot is capable of today, with as many as 67 million people playing every month.
These stats put League of Legends far above its competitors like DotA and DotA 2, as well as any other game out there. Compare that to old school giants like World of Warcraft, which at its peak period had around 13 million players and it's not even close.
The only games that could conceivably beat out LoL at this point are the social and uber casual game son smartphones like Angry Birds and Candy Crush.
You could even combine all of the Call of Duty games, or every single Halo game ever played and you wouldn't come up with these sorts of numbers - that's how big LoL has gotten. If anything, this news is testament to the sheer scale of Riot's server set up and how impressive it is that there are barely any outages that last for more than a few hours.
