After the monumental success of the Left 4 Dead series and the middling success of Evolve, Turtle Rock Studios has been a little quiet. However, it appears to be in the grips of working on a brand new game and may have been for some time already. Most intriguing of all though, is that the new game is said to be part of a "globally known game franchise," at least according to the job posting for a new level designer it put online.
Turtle Rock Studios is one of those game developers that has had a bit of a rough run of it in the past few years. While Left 4 Dead propelled it to success and saw it acquired by Valve, it eventually split into its own entity once again after difficulties with Valve's slow pace of development. Its next big project, Evolve, didn't quite find the audience it needed and a change of publisher from the shuttered THQ to the money-hungry Take Two, left it with more than a little ire from gamers who were faced with more DLC than they liked the look of when the game launched.
Since then it's been trying to make Evolve work with middling success and potentially working on something new. Until now, we had no idea what it was, but apparently, if we heard the name or saw some imagery, we'd know straight away.
The job listing for the level designer position suggests the game is part of a known franchise, which could be just about anything. However, Turtle Rock previously stated that it was working on a game that would be published by Perfect World Entertainment, which doesn't have rights to that many big, well known game franchises. Torchlight is one of them, as is Dungeons and Dragons.
Considering Turtle Rock likes to create cooperative games, could it be that it's developing a new Dungeons and Dragons experience?
