The Lenovo Star Wars Jedi Challenges bundle is now available for pre-order ahead of its November release. It's not crazy expensive, but buyers will need to put down $200 for what is essentially a single game with some very specific hardware.
For your money, you'll net yourself a Mirage headset, which is not part of the Windows Mixed Reality platform, despite releasing alongside Lenovo's Explorer headset which is. The Mirage requires a smartphone from the latest generations of iPhone or Samsung Galaxy devices. It also supports Google Pixel Xl and the Moto Z.
With the phone in place, you can use the bundled Lightsaber peripheral to take swings at Kylo Ren in simulated Jedi duels, as well as take part in strategic combat. If you'd rather something calmer though, there is an augmented reality version of Holochess you can play too, though it's not clear if you'll need the controller for any part of that - maybe if you flip the table in frustration and turn it into a brawl.
It's not a whole lot of kit or software for the price, which may make this more of an expensive Christmas toy for kids than something that's really worthy of being called an augmented reality platform.
How do you guys think it will stand up to some of the more expansive platforms working in that space?
