LG has a pair of new gaming monitors that it debuted at the IFA 2018 show and their specifications are very impressive. At 34-inches diagonally and fitted with high-color accuracy, nano IPS panels with full support for VESA DisplayHDR 400, they could offer the best gaming experience out there in the not too distant future.
The LG 34GK950G and LG 34GK950F monitors are stupendous looking and with good reason. Along with their 3,440 x 1,440 ultrawide resolution, they feature 98 percent support of the DCI-P3 color spectrum, RGB LED lighting at the rear and a functional stand.
Each display also supports high refresh rates, although the G model is a standard 100Hz, with a 120Hz overclock option, while the F model can hit 144Hz natively. Both have a standard response time of 5ms, though the F model can hit 1ms in high performance mode.
Another major difference of the two is their frame syncing technologies. The G model is built with Nvidia's G-Sync in mind, so will likely have a higher cost when it debuts later this year. The F model on the other hand, will have Freesync 2 support, so will have no dedicated hardware, but the ability to sync frames all the same.
Although there have been some suggestion of Freesync being hacked to support Nvidia graphics cards, for the most part, G-Sync works with Nvidia cards, while Freesync works with AMD cards. What you opt for will likely depend on your existing GPU choice, but there is usually a noticeable difference in cost between the two technologies, with Freesync monitors being cheaper.
No pricing or availability information for these monitors has yet been released, but we'd expect to see them before the end of the year.
